If you are mature enough to own a Harley-Davidson, then I would guess you are capable enough to make your own decisions. Keep the Hawg and sell the mother, you'd be better off.

You will be far safer on the Harley than you could possibly be on a scooter. Scooters have a great deal less visibility to other drivers, and they have almost no performance, so you can't get out of the way of other traffic. For instance, most scooters are hard-pressed to exceed 30-35 MPH, and you are just begging to be run over on a 40-45 MPH speed limit street (where cars are usually travelling 45-50 MPH. On the Harley, you can use its much better performance to control your position relative to other traffic (keeping a bit of a bubble around you), and you can also use it to maneuver clear of developing situations. Scooters may be cute, but they eliminate almost all your options for avoiding an accident on two wheels, and can be very dangerous on the street, as cars will come up on you a lot faster than their drivers expect to. Your Mom is probably not familiar with motorcycles and their operation, and thinks that the "cute" little, low-powered scooter will be safer; however, the facts are just the opposite. By the way, the scooter is far less stable, also, as two-wheeled vehicles stay upright primarily through gyroscopic force, and the small wheels of a scooter offer far less than the larger wheels of a motorcycle. One more suggestion: if you haven't done so, take a rider's course from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation - it will pay big dividends in your safety, and you can get an insurance discount, as well. You may wish to get some info from them to give to your Mom, as well.
In other words, keep the Harley. I recommend that you always wear appropriate gear, too (helmet, jacket, boots, etc.) - this will not only keep you safer if you do go down, but it will make your Mom feel better, too.

Drivers have a hard time seeing a full size motorcycle, which is about 5 times as big as a scooter, so...on a scooter you're more likely to get run over.
Stay with the Fat Boy. Always ride defensively. I've avoided some serious accidents by paying attention to the cars and trucks around me.

You will be disappointed the first time that a macho dude blows by ya and you have it twisted all the way. Remember you are just as dead if you crash a Fat boy or a scooter both have two wheels But you just look SEXIER on a FatBoy

Don't give up your Fatboy. It will take you anywhere you want to go. The scooter cannot. It's not the bike that is dangerous.
