We have been trying to set up a new tank for the last month or so, and it was going pretty well until a big name pet store sold us a fish with ick. Between the ick and not yet having the water stabilized we lost those 2 fish.
On the advice of a "real" fish store, we kept the tank going for about 2 weeks treating for ick but with no fish. Then added 2 new "feeder" goldfish to try to continue the cycling. The ick showed up again - I treated (temperature rise, and salt), but lost 1 (who I think was sick already when we got it). the other recovered and seems to be doing great.
I continued checking the levels and doing partial water changes to complete the cycling.
We waited until the ammonia and nitrite levels had reached 0 and then today we added a new calico fantail - it has only been about 2 hours, but I am already seeing little white specks on its fins. Is is possible for ick to show up that fast? or is it something different.
Thanks
