The world we're living in today is horrible compared to the safe, simple world of the 1950's.

The 1950's were truly the Happy Days.

Poor dear sweet innocent. Being a kid in the 50's was not nearly as simple as you want to think. School children would play with their friends one day and learn the next that their friend had polio and died or would be in an iron lung the rest of their lives. Kids were killed in car crashes because the tanks they were riding in had no seat belts, let alone special seats and air bags. Kids suffered through measles, mumps, chicken pox, and a whole litiny of "childhold diseases" and it was just a rite of passage. Kids practiced drills for when the "BOMB" would be dropped by ducking under their little desks. They watched the horrors of the world then, not on the internet, but in a magazine called LIFE. That way they could save the picture of the diposed dictator of Hungary's butchered body to take in to Show and Tell. They went to school in clothes their mothers has slaved over ironing and starching within an inch of their lives...You just don't know the meaning of joy until you can change out of starched clothes into a tee shirt. No one thought that abuse was actually abuse. Rape victims got what they deserved for dressing provocitavely. Children just got plaster casts on their broken arms when they "fell down the stairs". Teachers got away with whacking unruly kids, they weren't interested in getting involved in a kid's home life by reporting suspected abuse. Kids had cavities in grand proportion. Who had heard of floride? Politics were so corrupt it would make you shudder. Ever heard of Joe McCarthy? He and his ilk are the reason Hollywood of today is such a liberal enclave. We had yet to meet the Beatles, the Camelot of Jack Kennedy, desegration, Man on the moon, usable computers for ordinary people, and Pet Rocks. All we had was the Hula Hoop, Slinky, Saturday night at the drive in movies, Sunday afternoon drives in the country with the family, free unfettered games of ball without coaches trying to make us into professionals, and the sure and certain knowledge that when we grew up, nobody could tell us what we had to do.
The true Happy Days are right now. Don't lament for the past, don't hold off hopes for the future. If you don't make each day you live the happiest day you know, happiness will always elude your grasp.

It had some good points- like women didn't have to work like slaves as they do today. But I would rather progress and get out of the material illusion. This world is Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery. We are not these bodies,IE; race, nationality, religion, color, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul also Known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu. The only way to really be Happy is to reconnect with our Maker and the easiest way to do that is to chant the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from suffering and illusion) go to harekrishnatemple.c for details. Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada Gives one the purpose and meaning to human life no matter what the time or age we live in.

Our world is horrible. But not all of it. There are still great, responsible, and overachieving people that can change this world around. Our nation has had worse. African-American were forced to work and they were hated. Now, African-American are good and common people like you and me. We've had bad times because of the bad things we've done. God doesn't reward the bad people. He punishes them. We have to live right so we can make this world a better place. And I'd rather live in 2007 not in the 1950's. I'm blessed with what God has given me.

The 50's were "happy days" for men, but I am a woman and am grateful to have a college education and a well-paying job so that I can support myself and have freedom to make my own decisions, rather than be married and have 3 screaming babies by the time I'm 23! My brain is capable of much more than cooking and cleaning!
Anyway, the 50's had the fear of communism taking over, the whole McCarthy era. Pretty similar to what we have now, being afraid to speak against the government, and the media being censored!

I have thought about it many a times and to tell you the truth I don't care for the progress and all that crap.I would very much like to live in 1950's for sure. You have made me so happy that there are others who also think of the great times.

No I wouldn't. The 50's were the beginning of the Cold War, and there was the Korean War. Racism was very prevalent, and social codes and morals were very rigid. The 50's weren't all that great.

From time to time i wonder in which time i would like to live. The truth is that i like the present best.I realize it isn't perfect but the 50's...come on man...no Internet,no PCs,not to mention iPhones,3D scanners and photo realistic games. If i had to live in the past i would prefer ancient Rome.On the other hand i am afraid of what the future holds, besides i like surprises.

umm yeah sure they were the happy days...except for the rights of women, the technology they didn't have, the knowledge they didn't have, and the fact that the whole country had just got over world war two....
i think there was never any perfect time...we've always had problems and bad stuff happening in this country...but history repeats itself. the idea that there was one era were nothing was wrong is something stylized and hollywood.

Yes, with stipulations. I want to take back to the 50's what I know know and the 50's never turn into any other time (In other words, the 50's forever more).

Excuse me...ever hear of Duck and Cover, the cold war. I grew up in the days of the cold war. We practiced what we would do in case of a nuclear attack. I spent weeks sleeping under my bed, i felt it would be better protection when they dropped a nuclear bomb on us.

Trust me, the threats have always been there...the sources have just changed a litle
