I am an atheist because I don't believe in deities. I don't believe in deities because no argument or evidence presented to me in support of their existence has been convincing.

1. Biology adequately describes life and emotions without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

2. Astronomy adequately describes the formation of stars/planets/universe/etc without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

3. Geology adequately describes the evolution of the Earth, land formations, etc without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

4. Psychology describes the human psyche better than appealing to mystical invisible dieties

5. Appealing to mystical invisible dieties is an appeal to ignorance

6. There's no physical evidence for the existence of mystical invisible dieties

7. A myriad of mystical invisible dieties have been posited by emphatically superstitious societies and have been proven to be products of overly active imaginations (today's religion is tomorrow's myth) and ignorance.

8. Believing in mystical invisible dieties seems to become quite absurd when those who posit the mystical invisible dieties begin explaining why and how they exist in the face of contradictory physical evidence.

9. As scientific knowledge increases, the role of the mystical invisible dieties oddly gets pushed further and further back.

10. Mystical invisible dieties are mystical invisible dieties (ie can never be found by empirical methods)

The belief in a god reminds me of the movie “The Gods Must Be Crazy,” a native in the Kalahari Desert encounters technology for the first time--in the shape of a Coke bottle. I found this to be very amusing, but I also began to see parallels between his thought process, and that of the modern day Theist. Both are using CAVEMAN LOGIC to explain their world.

I fail to see the difference between “hmm, bottle fall from sky, must be gods” and “hmm, trees, butterflies, landscapes and the complex human body prove the existence of god.”

In both of these cases, someone is simply replacing one unknown for another unknown, but proving nothing!

Not only can God not be proven, but I will also go so far as to say that God can be disproved. It is impossible for something to be all knowing and all good. If you are aware that something bad is going to happen, and you allow it to happen anyway, then you cannot be all good. If God created everything, then he also created evil. It is also impossible to be all-powerful; can God create a rock that even he himself cannot move?

I would have thought that as man became more knowledgeable and logical that he would have pushed aside his caveman beliefs, but it seems to be just the opposite.

That should be enough to get you started.

Most atheist talk about a big bang theory as being the beginning, but this don't hold water, because if it was the beginning where did those gigantic masses come from that crashed into each other? and why were they in motion? Man they sure would have had to be big to create the entire extraterrestrial systems. Believing in God must be by faith. You may, however, consider analogies: We are all like ants upon the earth. We cannot travel to other universes or to heaven just like the ants can't travel over a mile or two. Even when we are in the ant's presence, the ants cant see us too well, so they have no idea that there is a "greater power" Although it is possible that some ants do believe that we MAY exist, and somewhere in the world right this very instant an ant is probable asking just as you are if we exist.

I don't think you can find a definite argument for such a question, sure there are plenty of arguments for the existence or non-existence of God or gods. But, will any of these arguments win over someone with an opposing view point? Probably not, the only people who accept the 'for arguments' are already believers, and something similar goes for the 'against arguments'. Is it even possible to prove that something doesn't exist?

The answer to your question will constantly change based upon perspective. If religious, God is a deity with humanistic values. From a metaphysical perspective, God is the all. It is good/bad, up/down, alpha/omega. Everything. It is not one of anything; it is the principle of everything. God is Satan and Satan is God. How do you separate everything (God) for something? In doing that, you've contradicted everything that God is. There isn't an argument against the existence of God because it is the principle of everything. How do you dismiss everything that is? You cannot. But the God spoken of in religion is nothing more than a fairy tale to get the bad little kiddies to behave. That God is the result of stealing without understanding what you stole.

If you believe in God ,there is a God. I dont believe in God ,its to easy to say thats how it was and thats it, the answer you got from Ashish is bad science, dodgy parables and downright fantasy.Troughout history,in all cultures of the world people have looked to the sky and seen comets, meteors, the moon the sun and such like, they did not know then what we now know.
Our universe and the vast amount of other universes in the whole solar system is so vast , something as simple as a God could not have created it,something more complex did the job, believing God created,is primitive, times moved on .
The elements that make life possible are the same elements that make everything else from comets to stars, the Sun is the nearest star to Earth ,the Sun gives us life, the Sun created the Earth.
The planets and their moons were all created by the Suns gravitational pull, but, they were created from millions of pieces of debris fliing through space at the time ,we just happen to be the rocks that got pulled in,millions more rocks kept the same path and flew by,The Earth is not as unique as you may think, had any other piece of rock been pulled into the orbit we are in then that would have become Earth .
We have not even begun to scratch the surface of the vast amount of Suns in the solar system.
contrary to what Ashish sais about water, water does not flow up trees, water is soaked up trees, gravity plays no part, his system of evaporation and distribution did nothing for Ethiopia, even today people are dying through famine.
the human brain, yes an amazing thing indeed,so amazing it can make your mind up for you and 2 out of 5 it will be wrong, the human brain is so amazing to us because we dont know any better, what good is an amazing brain when you are stuck here on Earth for better, for worse? The only difference between our brain and the brain of the simplest little bug ,is that we are aware of our existence.(not that amazing after all).
The Bible is only a guide,it is not fact,it was written by man not God,nobody diputes many of the stories in the Bible, but its only a book.for instance ,Noah,if the world was flooded you could not survive, even if you did have a boat,if the world was flooded the air we breath would turn into small water droplets and you would drown just by breathing in.
Also, there is no proof Jesus ever existed, try telling the millions of muslims that live on this planet the only way to god is through Jesus.
Thats what i think anyway i may be wrong but i dont think so.
Ican die in the knowledge that when the partys over its over.
But if you believe in God i respect you for that.
Hope this is helpfull.

Ashish_vu said a lot of good things but his ending was wrong. Jesus was not the only one who performed miracles. Didn't moses split the sea? Didn't the prophet Muhammad split the moon in half? None of these prophets said to be the equal of god because they knew that if even if they were capable of doing that, God could do much more than what Ashish_vu said. Quote:

"Jesus performed miracles. He healed people: blind, crippled, deaf, even raised a couple of people from the dead. He had power over objects: on at least a couple of occasions, he created food out of thin air, enough to feed crowds of several thousand people. He performed miracles over nature: walked on top of a lake, instantly stopped a raging storm for some friends. People everywhere followed Jesus, because He constantly met their needs, doing the miraculous."

didn't all the prophets do that. What justification would Jesus have for saying he was the equal of god? Besides, In Islam, we believe in all the prophets. We believe that Jesus never really claimed to be the equivalent of god but rather a messenger like the rest. The Bible has come in so many different versions and changed so much that the original message has a high possibility of being lost.

So in that aspect Ashish_vu, you are wrong

there's no concrete evidence that proves/disproves the existence of God.

logic is disproving long-held beliefs. but such beliefs only disprove aspects of God, not his existence. and, if there was a God, He would be capable of defying logic anyway.

on the other hand, people here trying to prove God exists are giving irrelevancies and plain facts as proof, e. g. how the Earth is exactly __ away from __, and only God could have done that. and how we're capable of thought, and how only God could have done that, or how the Bible exists... THE EXISTENCE OF WATER DOESN'T PROVE THE EXISTENCE OF GOD.

what's the big deal? people can live their lives without knowing. there are more important things to deal with right now. and if you prove God exists, then what? he'll be taken for granted. if He wanted to be proven, then he could have easily presented himself... so, either God doesn't exist or He doesn't want to be proven.

This is a not important question because it does not matter if god exist or not , It will not change anything.
By the way only 4 possibilities.
!) you belive and god exists , good for you.
2) you believe and god does not exist , you wont find that out.
3) you don't believe and god does not exists, you wont find that out either
4) you don't believe and god exists . What a nice surprise ehhhh.
As you may it does not matter.so stop wondering about god is the same if you believe or not .

I believe that there has to be some sort of supreme being (a god). If you think about it, you came from your parents, they from theirs, and on back it goes. Eventually, we all came from the first person. What happened before that? If you believe we were just created, then you already believe in a god. If you believe in evolution, then you believe that we came from other animals. Ok, so where did those animals come from? Somewhere along the line, something created the first life forms. You may believe in the big bang or some other scientific theory, but at some point, the very first thing was created, but FROM WHERE? At some point, there was nothing, and then all of a sudden, there was something. There has to be some sort of being that incorporates both....it IS something AND nothing and that is how something came into being from nothing, they are both part of the same thing. We may not be able to understand it, but it logically has to be.

i agree completely with ashish_vu
he was correct
nature itself is an argument for the creator
an atom the smalllest thing in the world is evidence for design
the chances of an atom evolving are so rare that it takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe in a creator
and all of the things that were supposed to happen by chance to make it so we could live here are huge
the only plausible explanation is that there has to be a creator

now there are many different religions that would give you a god to worship and they claim he is the "one"

but from studying the worlds major religions closely i have determined that christianity and the Bible are the best

like ashish_vu stated the Bible has been proven to be a accurate account of early history many times

Well this is the jist of what i believe and no its up to you
i can talk all day, but i can't force you to believe in Jesus
but i can ask you to pray to Him and let Him show himself to you
