My friend isnt hurt, but is sad by seeing her daughter cry. Is there anything that i might do to help them? I offered to take them somewhere to maybe take the little girls mind away because she is only 3. Any suggestions on the right thing to do or say would be great thanks.

We sometimes underestimate a child's saddness...but for them it is real...she is hurting, so maybe the best thing you can do is not to take her mind off it, but to talk to her, to re-assure her that her daddy will always be her daddy and that he loves her whether he is living with her or not. Maybe try to point out the positives to her...tell her that when daddy comes to visit she wont have to share him with anyone else and it will special time for just her and her dad. She needs to be re-assured, she needs to be comforted, she needs someone who will take her grief seriously. She will come to terms with it, but like an adult she needs a grieving period too. Accept her feelings and talk to her, dont just assume she doesnt understand because kids understand a lot more than we give them credit for. Give her the opportunity to talk about her saddness and give her your support and understanding.

That's a great suggestion you had, or even offering to go over to their house and play games with her.

she just doesnt understand what is going on and why her daddy isnt there anymore. has your friend sat her down and explained to her whats going on, its difficult with such a young child just hope that for her sake her parents can be civil and adult about her and her upbringing.
