I must say that you guys who wrote that Serbian people dislike Amerikans is so not true. You are full of prejudgements, and you are just jumping to coinclusions. How can you say that Serbians hate Americans when you haven't been there or when you don't know 15 Serbs at all?! What, you saw it on CNN or it was written in Newyork Times?!
I am a Serbian, and I should be offended with what you said. But I'm not, and none Serbian would be, because we kinda got used to be offended by what some people who have never been to Serbia think about us and then they give themselves the right to speak lies about us! I'll just ignore it and say that Serbians dislike Americans as well as all other european nations. Not more, not less. That is the real true.
When coming to Serbia, you should really not worry about your safety. Those stories that Serbians are mostly Al Qaida's members and criminals, suicide bombers and so, are deffinitely not true. Those are just the stories that politics and the war in early 90's caused. But this is year 2007, isn't it? Nowadays, there are many foreigners in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, and I met some of them. They mostly come from Europe, but I met two girls who came from America and their impression about Serbia was that they hadn't expected Serbia to be this beautifull. That is also what many tourists who come to Serbia say (they say that they are fascinated! ) .
Serbia is a really nice country. It is a country that differs from other western and central European countries. I don't know if you have heard but its capital has been announced to be the city of future of eastern, south-eastern and southern Europe, for two times in a row by Times magazine. There are many places to sightsee in Belgrade and in whole Serbia. There are also special villages where you can get away from the modern world, noise, cars, concerns, rush, and enjoy in lovely nature and domestic food (for which is Serbia very popular by the way). Some of the most delicious serbian dishes are gibanica, sarme, cevapcici, podvarak etc. Serbian people is a very good one. Young people mostly speak english, but they usually speak one more language like italian, german or spanish. We always want to help to the tourists if they are lost or can't find some street, bank or something else. We are very cheerful nation, we like partying, good music, drinking beer... We are specific for celebrating two New Years! The first is on th 31st of December, and the second one (the Serbian New Year) was yesterday, on the 13th of January. Serbian are mostly orthodox christians. Serbian history is one of the longest and the most interesting ones in whole Europe, and it starts from the prehistoric period and the Roman Empire, untill today. This is why there are many medieval castles, monasteries and foretresses that remained untouched untill today.
This is at least the basic about Serbia, which is not like the people usually think. It is much better, and you just need to come here, feel it and enjoy it, and only then will you know what I was writin about! Don't listen to these rumors. Ask someone who has actually been to Serbia! :-)

I passed via Serbia by bus, so I have no many impressions. However a friend of mine has been there twice, he loves Serbia. But take into account that I am talking about Bulgarian people in Serbia. If you are American, who knows... May be you won't like Serbia, may be you'll like it...

Hey, there!
I'm from Serbia (U could see that in my nick-name). It's not only because I'm from there, but it's great!
First- nature! There r not so many countries where you can drink watter directly from...what's the word? Plumb? Doesn't matter...
Next, we have beautiful mountains, rivers, and people! :) After all, if U come 2 Serbia U'll eat like never before!
We have very rich history. Have U heard about Nikola Tesla? Well, he was born in formal Yugoslavia (actually, in Croatia).
The Constantin, Byzantine king (or something like that) was born in Serbia, in city of Nish (Naissus-Nais-Nish), I live there. :)
In Serbia and Greece U can find church where ever U go.
And blah, blah... I can tell so many things, but it's best if U come.
So, welcome!
:)
