I was doing quite fine in my country. I completed high school with high grades, got admitted into the best college in the nation. I completed 2 semesters in BBA (24 credits) with a GPA of 3.50. But then I came to US (legal resident) and had to live in NY for 1 year to be considered as permanent NY resident and financial aid. Again, I couldn't transfer my credits. Now all I can do is to restart the BBA (bachelors in business admin) which would mean I will have lost 3 years. By the time I finish college I will be 27. Will this affect my career?

Also, is this true that in US a Bachelors degree in Business administration gets you a fairly good job no matter what?

Will it affect your career? Yeah - it will affect it by making you start it later. And when you are 27, if you don't go to college, you'll still be 27, but you won't have a degree, and you'll still be at the starting block with wonderful job opportunities like flipping burgers - fast food will be hiring for the rest of your life.

The only way you can "lose 3 years" is to do nothing with them. Go ahead and start taking classes - as many as you can afford without in-state tuition and without financial aid. If you cannot take ANY classes for one year, then get a job and start getting some experience.

And, no, a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in the US guarantees you nothing, the same as any other degree. Your ambition and hard work is your guarantee. The degree just gets you in the door - and the door won't open for you without the degree.

At 27, I was starting a second career path unrelated to my undergrad degree. Since then, I did a Master's degree, and now I'm ten years into my third career, the one I'll probably be at for the rest of my life. You're allowed to change your mind, and you're allowed to change directions if you want.

Calm down, take a deep breath. Now go forward with your life.

It depends on your degree and the job you want. In my experience, a bachelors degree is a jumping off point. Most employers are also looking at your previous work, skill set and personality.
