Other then the less-than-spectacular pay, teaching is a very rewarding profession. As a teacher I get the opportunity to be one of the most important adults in the lives of many children and I get to help them become good citizens and help them find their way in life. There are frustrating days, but the days when a child says to me that now they finally understand something they never got before, or that I'm the only person who ever took the time to help them, well that makes it all worth it. Plus I get all weekends off, holidays off, summers off. Every other job I have held (even the army) I ended up working on Christmas and other holidays. It sucked. Also as a teacher I can work anywhere in the country. It's a wonderful job.

I guess they either like the teaching enviornment or just enjoy teaching other people things.
I would never become a teacher because it pays very little, you have to put up with a bunch of adolecents, and you teach the same things every day and every year.

It's a new day....so teaching is becoming far less desirable. I went to school to teach b/c I thought I was cool w/ kids and could have positive influence on guiding them into adulthood, but the kids today lack the ambition I had in mind when I was in college. Of course this is generally speaking, but there are some that make you feel it's worth it, and that's one of the rewards.

Actually, I'm an instructor at a Women's Prison in Hawkinsville GA and let me tell you, it's awesom. I absolutely love my job. I'm helping and educating people which in my opinion, is the goal every teacher should have. I'm proud of my job and my students.

Because they want to help children, or they had a teacher that inspired them.

1) for the attention
2) so that whatever you say is taken as fact
3) guarantee yourself a job if you want to study something that doesn't have any marketable/practical value, i. e. philopsophy, sociology, history, English (if you can't do, teach)
4) possibility of influencing students
