You need to start buying staples that will last in your wardrobe for years. It sounds like you are buying disposable clothing (ie Forever 21, Wet Seal, Weathervane..) Those stores are great for trendy pieces that will only last a season, but since they are cheaply made, they won't make you look as good as you can. Invest in a great pair of bootleg jeans from Seven, True Religion, Joes Jeans, Rock and Republic.. etc.. They will fit you fablously and as long as you maintain your weight, will last for years. Another essential is a great pair of black dress pants. Oxford's are trendy this season, but are classic and never go out of style. Get them in colors that are primary so they match with everything. I would suggest watching TLC's What Not to Wear. They give so many great pointers for the problem you are describing. If you are looking for a cheaper way, try H&M, they often suggest that store but always suggest buying your wardrobe staples elsewhere!

Lose the hearts and polka dots. High heels are a TERRIBLE idea. Nobody takes a woman seriously if she's tottering around on stiletto heels. You need to dress so that you can move about easily and actually do things. Nothing lowcut or too short or too tight. I like to keep in one or at most two color areas in an outfit - example: black dress slacks, medium green blouse, slightly paler green jacket. Or navy pants, burgundy/navy paisley print blouse, navy sweater and burgundy earrings. Browns work well for me, but you have to choose colors that look right with your skin and hair. A lot of people choose navy, charcoal, brown, sage, or black as a basic color and co-ordinate everything around that one neutral color, but that doesn't work for me - I like variety!

Do buy quality and keep it for years, changing the accessories and how you combine things. You can be frivilous in earrings or other accessories, but keep the clothes themselves conservative, modest, and not cutesy if you want to get a good job and be taken seriously. You can still wear pink but not a pink skirt that scarcely covers your behind. Reserve the polka dots and probably the hearts as well for pyjamas or day-off wear!

I just went through that phase 2 years ago and now I get complimented on my clothes. The first thing that you HAVE TO DO is, learn what looks great on you. As others are saying, find a few colors that look great on you (maybe 3 colors and one neutral). A great pair of boot cut jeans can be so versatile, you can wear them with cute flats like audrey hepburn, with heels, or my favorite, with a pair of knee high boots. Try steering away from graphic tees or anything with logos. Get a classic black jacket that goes with everything.

I'm almost 23 and I'm still working on that! lol.
A good way to start is to find out what basic colors look good on you and go from there. A nice stylish sweater can always look cute and grown up. i think the most important key to looking mature is making sure that the clothes fit properly. Buy them too tight and you'll look like trashy, too loose and you'll look frumpy. Classy clothes should hang nicely from the bone structure of your body, flattering your curves but not hugging them too much. I've recently started wearing high heels with jeans and that makes me feel more "adultish". But once again, make sure the jeans fit right.

you have gotten heard of the "Little Black gown" from the Forties and Nineteen Fifties that extends with the aid of on the instant. of direction, now it quite is not in basic terms a gown yet additionally incorporates slacks and separates, or maybe (for people who look sturdy in them) rompers. neither is it constantly black anymore--yet could additionally be beige, gray, charcoal and military. (some human beings additionally be able to do it with purple.) It typifies sophistication while appropriate completed, and because your dresser is prevalent around one or 2 uncomplicated colorings you will spend much less looking prepare. that does no longer propose which you won't be able to have upload-ons or accents in distinctive colorings--however the monochromatic uncomplicated dresser piece(s) will help them stand out. How plenty to conceal up relies upon on what you're comfortable with, yet a sprint secret could be eye-catching. additionally the present emphasis on sleeveless, spaghetti straps, and cleavage are quite doing a disservice to many women folk.

well you really just answered your own question. try to just minimize the polka dots and hearts, not erase completely(there's nothing wrong with being cute). off the top of my head a few items could be fitted jackets, maybe a clasic trench coat, less sneakers and flip-flops more "grown up" casual shoes. just try to add items that look more mature to you but also things that you can see yourself in. It's really all about the attitude ;)
