It is a complex question, because some people were geniuses in only one field of the human knowledge whereas others were in many fields.
I would like to include Johann Chrisostomus Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His genius, even limited to music, was so great that we cannot overlook it

Albert Einstein, the Buddha, Shakesperare, Richard Fenyman, Marie Curie (Lord, I hate leaving out Mozart, Newton, and Da Vinci - couldn't you make it the top 10 greatest?)

Since the first three are familiar to most, I've included links for only the last two, whom some may not know.

I cannot tell you who the 5 greatest geniuses on this planet are (who am I to name them?), but I can tell you the names of 5 people who, I believe, shaped our world.
1. Jesus of Nazareth, we all know why.
2. Thomas Alva Edison for lighting up our lives.
3. Henry Coanda (Romanian engineer) for inventing the jet airplane.
4. Albert Einstein for helping us open our eyes and look at the Universe.
5. Isaac Asimov for his almost successful attempt to turn the science-fiction literature into a main stream literature.

1. Guttenberg - Without his perserverance and inventiveness, there would not be an Internet
2. Shakespeare - Timeless and brilliant insights into life, artfully shared with the world
3. Thomas Jefferson - A beautiful mind and a visionary who illuminated for the world, our potential for our highest and greatest good
4. Mother Teresa - A luminary of Selfless and firm Love
5. Albert Einstein - He tapped into the ether and envisioned a world no one else could see until he unveiled it

And I'd like to add Mozart, members of the Group of Seven, Canadian artists who brought Canada to life through the mastery of their brushes, and all dogs, especially "Herc" who with his unstated dog wisdom, taught me Unconditional Love.
