My mother (raised in florida) never knew anyone kept bananas on the counter. They keep them in the firidge. The peel may turn black but the fruit itself ripens very slowly.
PS don't keep bananas with the rest of your fruits. The gasses they give off as they ripen will cause the other fruits to go bad much more quickly.

If you want to keep bananas nice and yellow DON'T put them in the fridge or freezer. This makes them turn brown. This is the method alot of people use to turn their bananas brown for banana bread! You can put them in a shaded place like microwave oven (turned off of course) or a bread box. You should leave them OUT of direct sunlight in a cooler dark place

Putting bananas in the fridge makes them trurn black .You just have to eat them with in a few days or a week before they turn black, i'm afraid!

I buy mine when they're still pretty green. Keep them out of the fruit bowl if you also have apples- apples emit a gas that ripens other fruits faster. If you still have some that turn brown, make them into a banana bread so you don't have to throw them out.

You can't. I just peel mine and wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze them when they start to turn. That way you can thaw them for banana bread or throw them into a smoothie when they are still frozen.
