The Squier is good enough if thats what you want to play. Jimmy Page sometimes plays $60 Danelectros and other cheap guitars for the sound.
The biggest issue is to have the guitar set up properly, and that the sound you are getting is what you want.

eThe simple answer is whatever you feel comfortable with. You should choose whatever you think is right for your style and type of playing, and what you can afford as well. What might make a difference is the tuning and the strings. Check your tuning and also make sure that the strings are the right sort for your guitar, and also that they are not damaged or corroded.
Like some previous answers, the problem is likely to be your amp set up rather than the guitar- guitars sound the same but the way the amp is configured can make it sound different. There are several small knobs on your amp- you should take some time to learn what each of them does and what they do to the sound. It may be as well that the amp is too weak for the guitar, or the wrong sort for performance work. Guitar shops will probably be able to help. Checking the amplifier cable is also a good idea.

The instrument doesn't matter. Your amp might not be set right to match the type of music you're playing.

I don't think it really matters if all you need is one that tells about you and lets you stand in the crowd!

the one you have is fine, just play cool stuff and nobody who matters will give a poop about what you are playing it on.
