Or has it? Have you seen high school friends whose lives have went to pot? What's your take on the herb?

I'm a child of the 60's, so I've seen what pot can and does do to peoples lives. I've really seen it ruin good lives. The people I know that started with pot soon escalated to liquor and pot, then to "Speed" and after trying pharmaceuticals for awhile they went on to the hard stuff-coke & heroin.
All the people on drugs could do was get the money for their next "fix", nothing else. No job. They got into illegal activities-prostitution, robbery, assault anything to get that "fix".
Also, drugs sort of speed up your system. The people I knew died in their 30's or 40's. They didn't take care of themselves, they just didn't care. Drugs can really be bad news.

Well,
I have a different take on drugs altogether. The majority of my acquaintances were messed up before they took marijuana (or any other drug for that matter).

The drugs are more of a symptom than the root problem. People turn to drugs when they aren't satisfied with who they are or with their outlook on the future. The drugs make them feel differently and they like the change.

The root of the problem is environmental.

Abuse, low self esteem, hopelessness, desperation, escapism, ... are all symptoms of environmental problems. If courtesy, respect, opportunity, tenderness, care, and love were elevated, then drugs would lose their appeal - there is nothing to escape from.

To be honest, many of us are escapists - we just use TV, sex, "Answers," booze, or food as our "drug."

Drugs certainly can be mentally and physically addictive, but so are jelly donuts and TV. If those of use who aren't a mess could take more time to show care for others, we could help shape society to be "kinder and gentler" and we could certainly reduce the mental addiction aspect of drugs and other forms of self-abuse.

Not in high school.
But, smoking the stuff seems to make a person have "complete apathy." They just seem to stop caring about anything.
Later they complain, that they missed out on so many opportunities....because they didn't care about them at the time.

Most of the people I know who smoked pot in high school stopped smoking it when they got older and started having "adult" responsibilities. Greed and the quest for material things was a great motivator for them!

I'm 35 years out of education, but my life and that of many of my age cohort has been enhanced no end by the herb.
