Hydraulic lifters... no adjustments.. absolutly always keep the oil levels up and change the oil (and filter) Now in cold weather (if yer from a cold area) they will tick for awile on cold mornings till they pump up.. (use a lighter grade oil for winters) also you could have a weak oil pump, or a worn cam.. but all of the above lead back to oil in one way or another...

Yes, the cause is usually dirty oil. Your best course of action is to get an oil change as soon as possible and the sticky lifters will stop the ticking noise.

I agree with the guy at the shop. Although you don't mention how many miles you have on the van. You might also try adding some ATF about 100 miles before your next oil change.

Be thankful....my 2004 Caravan is about out of warranty, and they can't seem to fix the bumping between the lower gears...and now it has a noise under the hood...sway bar, and something else. What next! I vote for the trade in route!!!

I thought all dodge's rattled. Just kidding. If it is a lifter sticking a little marvel mystery oil will sometimes help.

It'll go on forever but not cause any damage. it's probably smoking as well, most of those are. They are a total POS. Next time, before buying, go to Consumers Report and do some research.
