It's in the "Friends" opening song (..."your job's a joke, you're broke, your love life's D.O.A...").

I don't know if it's something you normally hear in the US. I'm from Venezuela and I would love if someone would tell me the meaning. Thanks!!! =)

Dead On Arrival

It used to be the official medical term for a hopeless case, especially when arriving at the hospital. It is no longer a medical term but still a popular usage term.
It is also slang for someone who is doomed.

There are a few movies which use the term. I think one of them is a Hitchcock.

The term D.O.A. has multiple meanings depending upon the context it is being used.
In hopsitals, D.O.A means "Dead on Arrival"
In legal notices it means "Dead or Alive"
In announcements it means "Date of Arrival"

D.O.A. = Dead On Arrival.

It means that something that you expected to be "alive" (or functional) upon arrival arrives dead (or nonfunctional).
