When I go to the beach down under I always wear pop socks with my flip flops and for extra protection I put a Kiss Me Quick hat on over my knotted handkerchief. I have started noticing people pointing and sniggering. My chosen beachwear never got this reaction on the beaches at Skeggy or Clacton.

I guess if you look kind of funny to some folks you might just get the pointing and sniggerings. I don't know what "pop socks" are though. And, if the sniggerings and points bother you so much, then get some really strong sun screen.

Well, Pom, I cannot help but think the Aussies are like people in the Western USA when it comes to beach clothing.
If I were there, I would wear gaiters and nice leather shoes with bright red sock on one foot and yellow on the other!
Ah! What a fashion statement we would make!

Sorry, I couldn't hear the question for all the sniggering - and I couldn't quite make it out on screen for the all the pointing fingers...

Right, I've seen it now - seems fine to me.

I think it's de rigueur at Blackpool dahling...

The sniggering's par for the course but the pointing? That's just rude.

It's okay for them to do that... Let them have their fun. It's not you, it's their reaction to an appearance that isn't congruent to what they are used to seeing.

Don't take it personally as it's how humor registers in the human brain.

The only time I'd take it personally if you had a handicap you couldn't help and then it would be cruel.

Its never Ok to snigger nor to point - its only a matter of time before it becomes fashionable and then you can be way ahead of your time

This is Ms Manners speaking. It is never okay to snigger and point at anyone no matter how they look. You have my permission to give them a dirty look.
