In present times do the majority Americans think it is their personal obligation to fit into society? If so, is it true that people in other countries will only comform by government will? (I'm doing this essay and can't seem to decide).

Oh, and I AM an American. Just trying to filter out the rants about how 'I don't know what I'm talking about'. : )

I'm an American, and I'm not making it my personal obligation to fit into anyone's society except my own. I'm not sure what your point to the essay is, but, trust me, American's are for the most part very good people. Just like people from all over the world. Put that in your essay, and tell them Sybil from the USA put her 2 cents worth in. ~~

It's hard to decide because it really depends on the person. I personally believe a lot of people prefer to conform rather than stand out. Hence the success of things like MySpace, etc. Human beings tend to see different as bad, so instead of being seen as an outsider, most people choose to conform.

But really, if you don't conform to one thing, you are just conforming to something else.

I think most people do, not just Americans, because it's easier than being different.
