It would take a lot for me to actually look inside it... but i'd guess I'd have to to find the owner's contact details.. if the wallet had something like a picture of family and kids in it then that would make me even more determined to give it back to the rightful owner.
I'm afraid the only way I would even think about keeping the money is if the wallet had nothing else in it...not cards/ or any evidence that it belongs to someone.. but I think even then i'd hand it in or make sure that it went to a charity if it was unclaimed..
All I can say is I know how I would feel if someone kept it when i lost it and so I really respect other people's property...

Yes I would hand it in. If that was not an option ( police station too far away or had a hunch that the manager of the establishment where it was found was likely to keep it ) I would make sure that it went to a deserving cause.

No.
I would put an ad in the lost & found of the local newspaper if the wallet had no id card to identify the owner.

Yes. Absolutely. Maybe I'm a fool to myself, but £500 wouldn't make a big difference to my life, and I'd have to live with knowing I'd done the wrong thing. It wouldn't be worth it.

No idenification??? none....none....take it to the police???? well....gosh, is Andy here??? I don't know really,,,I would be more apt to put an ad in the lost and found in the paper and require them to tell me the other things in the wallet..bad karma to keep it but the police...I just don't know.

It would depend on a number of factors which are not cited in the question. Such as: is there any ID in the wallet?
