Going to Mars is probably going to have be a world-wide project - its just too expensive and technologically complex. There are a lot of problems that need to be need to be solved before it will be possible or SAFE to put a person on Mars. There are types of radiation that will be encountered that no human being has ever been exposed to, so we don't know what the effects are yet, don't know how much shielding or what type might be needed to protect against it, or how to support life in the environment of space for that long. Its going to take about six months just for the flight there, then another six months back, and they will probably be on the surface for about a year and a half, so it looks like an almost 3 year mission - something that simply is not possible yet. I hope I live long enough to see it, but it is going to be a long time before it happens.

I think a manned mission to Mars is a pretty long way off, the decision is better made based on the geopolitical atmosphere at the time.

Russia really wouldn't be my first choice to work with. If China works with them, I think it would do more harm than good. Russia tends to be both controling and incompitent. We'd be better off working with China, India or Japan.

Well we Americans are so competitive with one another, i mean look at the olympics. With our space tech we should be the 1st to send a man to mars, i mean NASA got it scheduled for 2011. we are on a roll.
