get magnifying glass, notebook, pencil, hide behind the furniture and watch members in the family and take notes

Use your imagination. As a child you still have that benefit. You can even make your own spygear. Or you may be able to purchase a spy book at a local bookstore that might give you some fun ideas. Your local library may also be a good place to look.
