Laura R is incorrect.
Goldfish are very hard to judge. People who have been breeding for years have a hard time.
They also don't breed well in aquariums. You need a pond.

To determine if fish or boys or girls, look at their bottom fins. If it is spread out and open, then it is a girl. The oppistie is a boy.

very good question. one of my hobbies is fish gender specifying, so i think i know the answer to your question. first lift up its left fin. if there are male genitalia then its a boy. they closely resemble human organs, shouldnt be hard to identify.
