Nigeria was colonised by the british after a 40 year war, 1861-1900. Nigeria gained independence from Britain in 1960.

Britain colonised Nigeria gradually in the 19th Century. In 1914 they united their 3 colonies there in the single entity Nigeria.
Nigeria became independent in 1960.

Far as I know, it was the British. You should check out some 411 on Biafra, though. We (the brits and the US) allowed the muslims to kill 2.5 million christians in nigeria in 1968. They blockaded 'em and (literally) starved the christians to death. Not that I have any sympathy for their religion, but still...two-and-a-half-/million/ people?!??!?! And your gov't let it happen. 2.5 million dead...that's significantly larger than the Rwanda/Burundi shindig, which has also disappeared down the memory hole.

im learnign about the coloization of africa in school!!!!!!!! It was briitain and germany who took over nigeria, but germany backed out of it and went to colonize bigger places.
