I like it. We spelled both our kids names with a twist. And they get misprounced but it's not as big of a deal to just say no it's .. as people go on about. My hubby's name ALWAYS gets mispronounced but he wouldn't change his name for anything. You know they did and study and found out that people with unique names are more likely to have self confidence and "find" who they are sooner? Strange ... huh? But I believe it.. it has never seemed to bother my boys and my name is Amanda and I always hated that everyone else had the same name...

For a boy?? No! It's a very feminine twist.
For a girl.. it's not bad - but I'm just not a fan of "creative" spellings. I do like traditional spellings that are a bit different(Sean not Shawn, Sarah, not Sara, Stephen not Steven).
If you want something different, do it with the name not the spelling. Look in the phone books for last names that make nice sounding first names.
Also - play the rock star/dr game. My husband and I would take each name we liked and played like it was a name for a rock star (which Cheyne would work - well - maybe country western) or as a Dr. You never know what your little one will be.

It's a nice name- I think Cheyne would be better suited for a girl- Shane for a boy

I like Shane, but, honestly, I think Cheyne is awful. It looks like a misspelling of Cheney, as in Dick, or a nickname for Cheyenne. If I saw this on my roll sheet, I'd assume it was pronounced like "chain" or "shine". I'd never guess it was supposed to be Shane.

I think if you name the child "Cheyne" but pronounce it "Shane" the child will spend the rest of his life explaining to other people how to spell and/or pronounce his name every time he fills out a piece of paperwork, etc.

I am having a girl and I have thought about many names. One thing I have seriously thought about is how other people veiw the names I have considered. The first answer you got was my first thought. But also try to consider that every time your kid has class and the substitute teacher is in , your kid is going to be called out wrong ... that could get embarrassing. Plus, when you or anyone else goes to buy a personalized item with the name on it they will never find it. It is an uncommon spelling and very cute but think about what the future will hold for that name. It's your decision.

No. At first glance, I thought it was Cheyenne. I think people would have a hard time getting Shane out of that spelling.

People are going to pronounce it Cheyenne and think you spelled it wrong. Also on paper people will assume its a girl and I am guessing your Shane is a boy - go w the regular spelling, really thats not a crime!

It looks like a typo and could be easily mispronounced like the current U.S. Vice President's last name.
I would just spell it Shane for a boy, Shayne or Shaine if a girl.

If you like that spelling call the person Cheyenne and don't try to pronounce it "Shane". Few things are more annoying in ones life than having to spell your name to every person you encounter!
