Congratulations! That's the best way to continue a new year purpose!!
1. First, drink a lot of pure water during the day, even if you are not thristy. It will help to clean your system for detox.
2. Avoid species in your food intakes: no pepper, low salt, etc.
3. Eat a lot of fresh fruits at room temperature. Specially for dinner and for starting your day at breakfast (mixed with cereals if you like).
4. Do regular vigorous exercise, at least 4 times a week. Bike, run, swim, tennis, etc.
5. Have a regular time for your meals.
6. Avoid been alone doing nothing. Find some interesting activity to keep occupied your hands and mind.
7. Try to avoid smokers and places where you used to go smoke.
8. Ask God in prayer to help you quit completely and victoriously against that bad habit, for enjoying a new wonderful smoke-free life!
God bless you!

I quit smoking a couple of years ago---cold turkey and in a high stress job where my co-driver was a chain smoker. I chewed a lot of gum, ate a lot of mints, brushed my teeth a lot (every time I got a craving I did one of these---smelled like a mint, but helped). I also had a lot of healthy munchies around because you get so used to the hand/mouth action that you need to do something---lots of carrots and gummie bears. Also, used the little stress balls and had a lot of clicker pens---had to keep my hand occupied. I takes all of the will power you have to quit and I wish you the very best and hope some of the things I used to help me will also help you.

I quit recently (after 10 years of somkong....GROSS!!) and shared your point of view.....why would I put nicotine patches on me when I was trying to break my addiction to nicotine??
I got Acupuncture and to TOTALLY worked. Believe me, I was skeptical but after 5 sessions over two weeks the real insane cravings started to go away (note : I had my last cigarette an hour before my first appointment so I was benefitting from it right after starting it.) I can't even explain it, I guess I just felt "re-wired"....now, 6 monthes later, each time I try to have a cigarette (after a drink or two, mind you) I become physically ill....it made me completely unable to have cigarettes!! Isn't that great!? Check it out!
P.S. My brother in law used Hypnotherapy to quit....you could check that out too.
Just believe in yourself and remember why you are quitting!! You can do it!! You feel better immediatelly....everything looks and feels better, your nails, skin, hair, lungs....it's great!
