Leave words like love out of this. It will only confuse the situation.

What you need to do is talk to one another. Do not even do this as a date. Meet for coffee or a soda or ice cream. The more you communicate, the easier it will be to figure out how you feel about him and how he might feel about you.

What you talk about is not nearly as important as making sure that you are listening to what he has to say. Finding areas of common interest is a good sign. The more you can share with each other, the better.

If after a couple of time, he still has not asked you out, but you feel that you are interested enough to want to date him then ask him (either directly for a date or if he would like to date you). If he is so shy as to avoid this, then he is not ready to date yet. Give him room, but prepared to look elsewhere.
