Are chat rooms used by anyone other than the 'desperate'?

I personally wont use them. However there are very sincere lonely people out there who are more than entitled to use them. So long as they dont fall for any old flannel, then long may they continue.

Yes, they are used by the socially inept at times. But over all I think most of the people in chat rooms are just bored

Yes, some people use chat rooms to discuss all sorts of subject matter (video games, hobbies, business, etc). I think the question may be rhetorical, but whatever.

No - I sometimes use chat rooms but I just like chatting to people. I'm happily married and when hubby is on his Xbox or we aren't put I sometimes go into chat rooms. I don't use them for dating - just for chatting.

Yes. Paedophiles trying to meet kids in Brittany Spears chatrooms and pissed up people messing about on the internet with their friends by going in a chatroom and winding someone up by pretending to be a member of the opposite sex wanting to flirt or "something".

I have to admit I've never been in one but I've heard stories (mainly from drunk friends who were messing about on the internet).

My friend was house-sitting for me once with her boyfriend and when I got back I discovered that they'd downloaded chatroom from a porn site but I didn't like to ask them what exactly they'd been chatting about or to whom!

I've never been in one. But I suppose there are the ''desperate ones'' -there are also plenty of pedophiles on there aswell, so best to stay well clear.
