One thing they changed were the obstruction calls. Those are penalties away from the puck. In the old NHL you could get really chippy when you pushed a guy out from in front of your goalie. After every play there used to be pushing and shoving in front of the net. Now they'll get you for it.

They painted two new lines behind the net. They leave spaces in the corner where the goalie can't touch the puck. This gives the other team more time to get to it an potentially score. It also keeps you from making line changes.

The also changed to a "delayed offside" call. In the old NHL, if you were over the other teams blue line and the puck came in they blew the whistle. Now if it comes in and nobody touches it, you can go back over the line to "tag up" and come back in onside.

The blue lines are now closer together as well. This creates a bigger zone to move around and score in.

They also added the shootout. Until now, you played one OT, and if nobody scored it was a tie. Now you play a best of three shootout. If you lose you get an overtime loss which is still one point.

I like the new NHL, except for the obstruction calling. I miss the violence.

I feel that the new changes really suck the changed the way that the game was meant to be played. The rule that I think I hate the most is the holding call. There are so many holding penalties called now that it seems like they are stopping the game every 5 minutes for a holding penalty. The only good thing that I can say about the new NHL is that it allows smaller and faster guys to play.

No they most definetly have not because now too many penalties are called. The only rule I like is that there is no more 2-line passing rule, more odd man rushes.

most are for the better.

but they need to chill on the penalties being called. its hockey!

let them grab and hold. its that fight for the puck between two players that make hockey, hockey.

that ambition. as some would call it.
