If the Americans think all of Britain is posh, they are only saying that because they've been to london, they wouldn't say that if they went to the working areas if the UK, such as the Midlands, Wales, Northern England and Scotland.

The Americans say we are arrogant, DO NOT under any circumstances confuse us with the french. Since when did Britain change places with the frogs? The frogs are the biggest bunch of arrogant wankas on the planet! I have more respect for a speck of dust than a french person!

Because a some of the British people on here come across as arrogant. Why does some American think we say "England" with a posh voice? England is only 1 quarter of Britian and it sure isn't all that posh! I think a whole lot of American's need an education on Britain and it's culture.

I don't think you're arrogant. I have a British friend and she's very proud to be British. I respect that and I'm proud to be American. She's always trying to do the redneck accent and I do the posh one. It's a LAUGH people, it's pretty sad how people get so easily offended these days. =(

Well, I'm an american but all my family is british, who came over on a boat 51 years ago. I still have tons of family in England. Here's what I think: British people are born into more etiquitte and manners. And I think Americans look at it as you're know it alls.

They kept their opinions to themselves when I was at uni, everyone was out doing sports and the european friends I know were the only ones in the library. Now that we're older things have changed slightly. It depends where the American meets his first Brit, if its in an investment bank in London then obviously you have to be arrogant unless you want to get trampled on, but Brits are calm, reserved so calm in fact that the rest of the world thinks we know something they don't and when they have decided that we don't they just put it down to arrogance.

Why do a lot of Americans think we still have that weird posh british accent from like 80 years ago?! Tally ho and all that! Some British people are arrogant, i.e. toffs that look down their noise and working/middle class people - I can't stand people like that!

I do not know why. I didn't notice. Perhaps because we think we are good at everything or because we invented the language in which they speak today. Who knows? All I know is I'm not arrogant. Brits just think they can do anything and get away with it! And when they don't, they like to argue the toss!

I certainly don't! I have chatted with several Brittish people, and it was a pleasure speaking with each and every one of them. I personally would rather chat with one of you than another American like myself. British people have such a better way with words. The ones I've chatted with have a much larger working vocabulary, and use much more descriptive language than most Americans. I envy that. (Perhaps that is also why my favorite authors are British!)
