I don't know how the arbitration thing works honestly, but Mauer and Morneau are gonna warrant 7-8 mil a year by the time long term contracts happen. Cuddyer probably 4-6 mil, Punto3-4 mil, and Rincon 2-3 mil. That will be a year or three down the road, but they shouldn't let these guys hit the open market and bidding to start up. Mauer may give the hometown discount, but Morneau won't!
Speaking of locking guys up long term... after seeing Zito's contract, Terry Ryan shat himself. When the time comes Johan can ask for anything he wants! If he hits the market, the Yank'll throw 20+ mil a year at him!!!!!!

Actually M & M both filed for arbitration the other day, so yes the Twins will be shelling out some coin, and soon. When was the last time that you saw an MVP or the league batting champ making under a million. I agree it's gonna be at least 2.5 more likely 3. These 2 are still kids too, early on in the learning curve. Mauer hit close to .380 a solid chunk of the year, what is gonna happen when is stamina builds? When he finds his power stroke? And Morneau? He hit BETTER then Mauer after mid June. There are two that could be contended with for a long long time, it will be at least 10 years before they start heading downhill. THe Twins ought to do the smart thing now and lock them up into SOLID LONG-TERM contracts as soon as possible.

I think it's going to be a spendy year, but that's part of the reason why the Twins didn't spend a whole lot of money this offseason was to help budget for this.
Both Morneau and Mauer can expect to land contracts in the $2.5 million+ range after arbitration.
Cuddyer will probably crack $1.5 million. Punto probably won't go over a million yet because despite playing a solid 3B his numbers weren't anything to shout about. Rincon is due for some coinage probably in the $1.5million+ region because he is a top flight set-up man with a solid track record.

The Twins know what it takes to get this all sorted out. Not only do I think these boys will stay together, I think one of them will be the first player to hit a home run in the Twins new stadium.

The Twins have a year to negotiate before they have to worry about arbitration, I think. Pohlad (Mr. Cheapskate) needs to keep these guys together if he wants a chance at another World Series Championship.

I think its going to be an expensive year for the Twins. However if they keep all of those players, they are going to have to have AA players at the rest of the positions, so they are going to have to give up something.
