The foundation for real love is character, mutual compatibility, and attraction. Love is not an emotional feeling, but rather a commitment to another. If you love someone, then there well being is your primary concern, even at your own expense.

i'm no expert but i've been married for a while, 15 years, and what i am going to say is not what you expect.

when you love someone you dont always like them.

Living with someone is hard at any time. ask a person who had a college roommate!
Loving someone means accepting them for all they are and loving their faults as well. You cannot change a person and to try will only result in hard feelings and hurt.
I would gladly lay down my life for my husband and i wouldnt trade him for all the gold in the world (well...just kidding) but I have to tell you, there are things about my man that can make me go ballistic in 2 seconds. Thats just the way it is.
I am very old school and believe in the forever until death part and have had to work at making my marriage thrive.

I don't believe it possible to measure how much you love someone or yourself. I think it is easy to confuse love and obsession and lust. Love, between a man and a woman, in my opinion, is between committed adults who care deeply for each other and strive to make each other happy. Love does not just happen by chance. It may begin that way but it takes work to make it last. That is the best advice I have gotten. It shouldn't be difficult but it does take persistence and work.

Real love is wanting to make the other person happy, caring about their needs, wanting to make a life and (possibly)children/a family with them, and compromising when necessary. It is loving unconditionally, meaning you may not adore the way he crunches his popcorn, but you wouldn't change him for the world. You love him for being him.
When you find this, you will be the luckiest person ever. It is a great feeling to love this way and to be loved this way.

If every waking minute, you think of only being with this person. And Life stops, when you're not with EACHOTHER. Too many times, it's one-sided. Be sure that his heart, is beating on the same Page. Don't look at his looks, Wallet or influences. It's the Heart, Precious. And your's needs to be held as precious.

At the spiritual level, which is the highest,according to Buddhism, love means:
Wanting the other person to be happy, always;
doing things that would make the other happy;
caring and supporting him/her when he/she is in trouble,pain;
sharing all joys and sorrows;
being deeply compassionate towards each other;
giving generously;
trusting deeply;

It means just a big smile from your significant other makes your day and charges you up; and you would do everything in your power to keep that smile....
tears in the other's eyes make you cry; and you would do anything in your power to wipe those tears off.....

No you cannot love someone else more than you love yourself. You have to love yourself before you can truly love someone else. But, I believe true love is loving someone unconditionally.

You are right, putiing your beloveds needs ahead of your own. It also means always having a mutual line of honest communications going, and most importantly, sticking by each other, especially during troubled times in the relationship.

real love is loving someone more than anything, thinking about him all the time, missing him whenever he's gone.
real love is when you feel so close to the other person, feel what he's feeling, know what he's thinking, hold hid heart inside yours.
