I mean that it will stay up for some time but you loose lots points? Or how do you get more answers?

A question will cost you 5 points no matter how long it stays on the board. You won't loose more points for having it up for a long time. You get more answers by posting questions that people will be interested in answering...after all, you can't force someone to answer a question

you only get more answers to good questions for example this one is a basic question and will only reach a few no more than 20 answers!!

You can extend the time, but on P&S after 15 minutes or so it's pretty much finished.
