I had problems with IE 7....past tense because I removed it from my computer. My printer stopped working properly. I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer at least twice maybe more. It didn't help. I googled it without coming up with any answers. Then I went to my printer's website (HP). There in a chat with a tech, I learned that IE 7 was the problem. I uninstalled it, restarted the computer, and Windows automatically reinstalled IE 6. End of problems with my printer. IE 7 has been nothing but trouble for a whole lot of people

You can try the things that Nic suggested but if IE 7 itself is the problem, none of them will help. I post on Smart Computing's Q&A Board. I found the following answer given to someone's question about IE 7.

A. Your problem is IE7 as IE7 is many peoples problem, it's not ready but MS needed to push it out the door with Vista coming out soon so it could be tested and fixed.

Before you jump into unintsalling IE7... you will get many bad opinions and they will seem to stand out if you are frustrated.
I am a certified tech and use many different mail clients. IE needed to add tabbed browsing and it will still dominate over other mail clients. Getting used to using it and accepting its changes and modifying it to your taste would be a good idea. Even if you decided to install Firefox you could still leave IE7 on the machine.

There could be many factors as to why your PC slowed after you installed IE7 but you should make sure you have all the available windows updates and see how much memory you have in your PC. If you have 384K or less then you will see a slow down. And if you are running other intenet intensive apps then you will surely see a slow down. Disconnect your PC from the internet, open IE multiple times and see if your PC appears to be back to "normal" response times. If it is then you may just have too many apps trying to acces the internet. That and the combination of a lack of memory and your PC will slow to a crawl.

Uninstall IE7, then re-install and do the updates. It really isn't slower and it is a more secure browser. If you want to try a faster, smaller browser, download Opera. There are sites that Firefox doesn't work on, plus Firefox does have a crash condition that affects some machines.
