7/9 * 6/5

The reason it becomes 14/15 is because you can not only reduce fractions vertically, but also diagonally.

Notice that the 9 on the bottom in the first fraction and the 6 on the top in the second fraction have a common factor of 3. Therefore, we can divide each one by 3. Showing you step by step,

(7/9) * (6/5) = (7/3) * (2/5)

See how the 9 become a 3 and the 6 became a 2? That was a result of "reducing" the "fraction" diagonally. Now we multiply normally and get 14/15

*The rule is you can't divide fractions > take the 1st fraction and multiply it by the reciprocal of the 2nd fraction...

7/9 * 6/5

First: multiply the numerators...

7*6 = 42

Sec: multiply the denominators...

9*5 = 45

Third: place the new numerator over the new denominator...

42/45

*Simplify the fraction into lowest terms, if possible > find one number that can divide into the numerator and denominator evenly... the number is 3

*Divide the numerator and denominator by 3...

(42/3) / (45/3)

14/15

Two ways.

multiply across and get 42/45

3 goes into 42 , 14 times,
3 goes into 45, 15 times,
so you get 14/15

Or recognize that 3 goes into both 9 in the denominator and 6 in the numerator so divide each by 3 and get

7/3*2/5

now multiply across and you get 14/15
