I really like to keep a small pet but not sure whether it will affect with my studies because of the care I should give for them?
So I'd like to know of a pet that needs the least care apart from fish.
thankyou

well, first off I absolutely love pet rats and I agree that they'd make an awesome pet......if you have the time.

But if you dont have enough time to take care of a pet..I dont really think you should be getting one..Pets take time, if you dont have time, getting one isnt fair to you or the pet.

with that said...have you considered an ant farm?

I could list 1000 animals that I think make awesome pets but they all need time and care. your criteria leaves fish, ant farms, and pet rocks as possible pets. If youre really wanting a pet I'd get something that doesnt require social attention, just food and water and cleaning. Maybe a hermit crab or an aquarium with frogs, lizards, etc.

A cat is probably the most independent of pets and the least demanding, but they still deserve care.

I cannot image someone not having the time to care for a cat. If you are going to college and also working and you will not have the time to properly care for an animal, you might seriously consider NOT having a pet until you do have the time and disposition. This is for the pets sake. Good luck. Tell us what you decided after all.

I am a university student and I have 4 guinea pigs and a rabbit! :) I would suggest guinea pigs. they need their cages cleaning once a week, and time for handling, however if you get a pair they are less work, as they will keep each other company. Rabbits also make great pets, but need more floor time, and more time to be held. :)
If you are really busy you could get a hamster or a gerbil.

I think maybe a hamster, a gerbil, a rabbit, etc. But cats are okay, too. They're not as hard to take care of as dogs, and they don't need to be taken outside. All you have to do is change their litterbox and give them lots of love.(or at least that's what i know of) Hamsters, gerbils, and rabbits are like miniature cats LOL

I agree that a rat would be a good pet. I had one when I was in college. He started out as my lab rat in my learning class. I would often take him to class with me and he would sit on the table with me while I read and studied. When I took him home he actually toilet trained himself (he would put cedar in his water dish and pee in it). as he got older he had problems with his teeth (common in rodents) and became expensive because I needed to have a vet file his teeth down monthly. I would also suggest hermit crabs. That is what I got for my 2 year old son. They are very low maintenance and my son loves it when I take them out for exercise. If you are living in a dorm be sure to check on the rules. I had a friend that had a fish and a rat. The RA found out and made her get rid of both.

snakes are really easy. Mice/gerbils/hamsters are easy but stinky. If you have a big enough cage for them to roam around and a wheel- they will be fine never leaving it. A water bottle and a stockpile of food and you are good for a week or two until the cage cleaning. That is what I do for my feeder mice, and they do not bite me when I do decide to handle them.

Snakes are cool, especially the small ones that eat crickets. The larger ones that eat rats are a bit more high maintenence.

Oh, and hermit crabs are really cool. Very easy to take care of and fun to watch and play with.

All pets need require time and care. I am a college student and my guinea pig(s) sits on me and squeaks while I study.

A cat. You could get one of those gravity feeders and fill it a couple times a week. Get a good cat litter and you will only have to clean it once or twice a week. Super easy.
