Given that Joe Satriani taught Steve Vai, and consequently Steve is a Joe-Clone, then the master has to be Joe, and the student has to be Steve.

A much as I like Joe Satch, Steve Vai is the MAN. I just saw him live in December for the first time ever and he is utterly amazing. He is one of the few people who sounds as good if not better live then he does on record. He is very technical and can bring it and piss all over anyone live. He is subtle when he needs to be and can really wail when he needs to.

Steve Vai.....all the way!

That's a toughie... I'll say Joe. Sometimes Steve Vai can get a bit too effectsy and technique heavy. Joe keeps it simpler! Both are absolutely brilliant, but Joe just edges it.

understand that Joe changed into Steve's guitar instructor for a lengthy time period. They nonetheless mail one yet another their tapes for reviews as they are putting mutually new songs. Joe has my nod because better of his stuff has that beat you could rock out with; it is an excellent-high-quality line, although. inspect all 3 of the G3 excursion DVD's - the first with Eric Johnson, 2d with Ingwe Malmsteen, third with John Petrucci - all tremendous!!
