I'm wondering....with one of the boys being 15 (nearly grown), did he not think he could get away from his kidnapper?
Did he TRY?
There's a 'dead cat' on the line somewhere!

As you have been informed, one boy was missing for four years and the other four days. There are a number of reasons why the 11-year-old boy was held until he was found at age 15. For one thing, people don't want to get involved. There are adults who said he looked like the kid on all the posters, TV coverage, etc, but they blew it off. His friends surely noticed he didn't go to school, why didn't they tell their parents or did they?
When the description of the kidnapper's truck was plastered all over TV, why didn't the neighbors or his co-workers all 9-1-1? Maybe becasee we are all so self-absorbed that we don't want to get involved? Or maybe we don't want to hurt someone's feelings or risk getting sued if we point the finger at the wrong man?
In addition, the kidnapper stayed out of trouble and did not draw attention to himself--he had two jobs and no run-ins with local police. He looked like a regular guy who worked at a pizza place. Most likely, the boy felt very threatened and may have connected somehow with his captor (the experts call it Stockholm Syndrome). These predators can be very charismatic and convincing. We don't know what type of situation the boy left at home and what happened to him in those four years or what his emotional state was.

That is a good question. I am not familiar with all of the specifics but it is pretty amazing that the 15 year old was living in the same house with this man and had also been kidnapped and no one saw him in the neighborhood in those 4 years. It is a sign of the times - everyone is too busy to stop and pay attention to what goes on around them and in their neighborhoods.

apparantly the 1 who was abducted 4 yrs ago was brainwashed into thinking his mom was killed in a car accident, and the abductor told the kid he was his real father. shawn lived with his mother and step father. he must have kept him somewhere away from the public for some time because his face was on the news every day, and his pic was everywhere! he looks totally different now than the last pics were taken of him. as far as him not being able to figure out that the world was looking for him.... i think he must have been threatened with his life or something.. because when the cops came in, he told the cops who he was. the other boy was gone for 5 days. it was a good person that got a good description of the truck, and another person happened to spot it. it just so happened that the police were there to serve a warrant to another tenant. this person approached the cops and told him his suspicions. they went to the apt. but didn't have a search warrant. so they got one and went back and found the boys. the abductor was pretty stupid in not leaving at that point. but more and more news and info keeps coming in. there is some confusion on how it all played out. i live in st louis, and you can go to myfoxstl.com to get our local news stories. i saw everything last night, but i worked all day and haven't gotten the latest on everything. so check it out. hope it answers some of your questions.

I wondered how the boys face who was kidnapped 4 yrs ago wasn't all over every light pole and in every window in the state so that the neighbors could have recognized him since he was out in public with the kidnapper all the time. The general public is not to blame though.... it's no ones fault but the kidnapper himself. We try to be aware but sometimes it's not enough. Do you know the names and faces of all the kidnapped and missing kids in your area?

Well, first of all, only one of the boys was kidnapped 4 years ago. The other one was kidnapped recently, and because one of his classmates spotted the kidnapper's truck, the police were able to get a warrant when a similar truck was spotted later.
So because no one expects their 11 year old child to be kidnapped off their front lawn, it's hard to prepare for. That's why it's so important to teach your children to think for themselves, because you won't be able to protect them every second of every day.

One was just kidnapped, the other was kidnapped four years earlier. Who knows what the sick MF did to the 12 year old boy to make him too afraid to flee. Remember what Jeffrey Dahmer's neighbors said, "He was always such a nice quiet young man." Didn't seem like a serial killer cannibal to them but he was.

That is because there are all so many people who are afraid to stand up and say ENOUGH. (unless of course something happens to them) But I am watching this as well as I'd like to know how he was able to keep them locked up and out of the public eye and NO ONE has asked any questions. There is more to this than what they are making known and I also very interested in what has transpired.

maybe the kidnapper got far away it might take a while to find them. They do pay attention but you have to be gone for so many hours to be noticed as missing.

One boys was only missing days. I think they were isolated and probably warned not to try anything. I thank God they were found. mf
