The answers above are all right on the mark....but a quick fix: get a bag of charcoal briquettes (like for a BBQ grill), take it in the basement, open the top of the bag. The charcoal will absorb the odors. But definitely check into a humidifier. Preventing the odors is step 1.

You need a product called Jeyes Fluid. If you cant get it where you are, order it from Ebay. This has a strong cleaning smell, not unpleasant. Put it all over the floors, walls doors etc then leave the basement. You might have to do it twice but this will make it go.

If the basement hasn't actually become moldy, your best bet is to get a dehumidifier and set it to run automatically whenever the basement becomes too damp.

The concrete or cement has to be cleaned and sealed to permanently clear out the smell.Your local hardware store carries sealer.

buy a dehumidifier. we have one & it works great at getting rid of that odor....I call it the crawl space smell

Well you really can't it will take forever but try scrubing things and disinfecting things ....
