Nits hatch within 24 hours and the adult lice live for 72 hours. So, you can do it in a non toxic manner by soaking your hair in mineral oil and it will smother the nits when they try to hatch. You wear a plastic shower cap with a towel on your pillow so that you don't make a mess with the mineral oil.

I assume you washed your sheets and bed covers, right? Another way to handle it is to put your covers and sheets in a plastic bag for three to four days, which the lice cannot survive without a host for 3 days (72 hours) and then wash them.

You can also buy poison over the counter to kill them and then pick out the dead nits in good lighting.

FYI: Where do you think the expression came from, "Stop nitpicking!" when someone is being criticized incessantly?

Nits are the little eggs that are attached to the hair shaft when you have been infected with lice. The kits that are sold at your local pharmacy have special combs to use to remove them. Talk to your pharmacist. The will recommend the correct product to help you in clearing up this little problem. Once you have done so, please make sure to wash all bed linens and blankets in hot soapy water, vacuum your room and bed thoroughly and spray to prevent further infestation. Good luck.

Kwell and a fine tooth comb several times over the week as the nits are eggs hatching. You must rid yourself of all generations. Wash your clothes and bedding thoroughly as well.

There is a special metal comb that you use to comb the nits off of your hair. It takes a long time to do and is helpful if you have someone else doing this for you.

Go to the local pharmacy and get what they advise. Do it as soon as possible, cause they will spread to your eyelashes and brows, besides other places. Trust me you will be miserable!!

Kwell creme is a prescription de-louser. I have also heard of turpentine, gasoline or kerosene treatments, but those may cause more problems than they solve.
