just put in burner now won't detect disk???????

You have to first make sure your computer sees the drive.

Go into my computer and see if the drive is listed.

IF NOT..
You may have installed incorrectly (Master/Slave jumpers) Read installation procedure. Install any driver/software off of CD that came with it.

IF YES..
Are you using the correct disc? Most CD writers support CD-R and RW's. A CD burner will not recognise a DVD, unless of course it is a combo drive. Is the disc scratched?
Does the drive read any other disc?

I am sure you just over looked something to remedy :)

Hmm what kind of burner like DVD burner or regular CD burner? Also did it come with drivers and software? If so try to re install them.
