Yeah I remember it...took place on 580 going West. Gruesome story. She thumbed a ride from a truckdriver and he cut her arms off at the elbows. She got religious afterward and forgave him if you can believe it...It was pre 1986 I know that. She was of Mexican decent I do believe and yes I read it in the Livermore paper. The SF Chronical would have archives on that story. I also do believe his name was Stapleton. Those were the times when young girls thought nothing about running away and thumbing rides from anyone...in a halter top!

I remember when the guy got out of prison. His name was stapleton. Try contacting the Contra Costa Times Newspaper. That's the main paper in that area. Someplace around Livermore I think but couldn't even hazard a guess as to how long ago it happened.
