I have, in the past at different homes, lifted the top 12" of soil, brought in top soil and then added bone meal, blood meal and lots of organic matter...i don't think it was worth the expense. I now live in south Texas and we have a lot of clay...good for blackland farming...but not for gardening. I have slowly started with gypsum, gin trash, cow manure, blood meal, bone meal...you name it...I bought a good tiller and I am presently growing 500 Rocket snapdragons nd other plants which are gorgeous..put the frost cloth on the frames yesterday to get ready for our hard freeze on Monday night. You can do it yourself ...rent a tiller if you need to.

Hi,I have the worst soil in the universe.I swore I was going to shovel that out a shovel at a time and some day would be out of there! Well,I don't think I'll live that long,so instead I use Gympson.(Did I spell that right?)It's a 50 lb.bag of white powdery stuff, and it improves your soil. I also add some Vermeculite.Kinda like Perlite, but for outside. That breaks up the soil and keeps it from becomming so compacted. You should take a jar of your soil to the garden center, and they can have it tested to see what kind of,if anything, you need to add.Maybe lime to bring the ph balance up?Home Depot can do the testing for you.Good luck,Bye.

In the ground soil?
One dig it all out and have a reputable company replace it with good soil.
Two amend, amend and amend the soil. ( Clay soil) gypsum and compost, lime, Tilling bring the clay to the top and leave it chunky, with time it will break down.
Sand... compost, compost and compost.
I think I gave the wrong impression; what I meant was... One option which is really only for the extremely wealthy is to have a company dig it out and replace it.
The second option is the option the rest of us can go with.

Don't get rid of it, improve it. Go to www.Monty's .com and read up on how to improve your soil. We have red clay mud for soil, and with Monty's joy juice, we have a beautiful, green lawn with hundreds of plants that flower and bush. We started using this product last spring, and we look like we've had professionals come in to redo our home. Just my husband and I!!!!!!!!! Give them a try and you won't be sorry. It's all the nursery where we got our roses use, and their plants are the nicest ones in the southeastern Ohio area.
