I was applying for a credit card and realized it was not a secure sight so I got off of it. An hour later I have some USA Credit approval for some usa shopping.com program and they said they will take 180 bucks out of my checking!!! For a membership fee? How could this happen? I think I am pretty smart and I didn't even press the submit button!! Please be wary and please share your story for me. Thanks to all!

I have a good understanding in the the field of IT security and know alot of tactics that they(hackers) use.

The one you are refering to is a tactic called phishing. Howstuffworks has a great artical on it. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/phishing.htm

I can't believe how some people simply think a Firewall and a Virus Scanner is enough to protect them online. Simply put there are other ways around.

It's not that uncommon that illegal websites will entice you into applying for a credit card or some other bogus gimmick just to get info from you. As soon as you start the process you unknowingly provide the scammer with info that they use to bilk you out of your money. You should immediately notify your bank to stop payment on anything to that company and send an email to your state Attorney Generals office.

I've gotten emails from "Ebay" saying something about needing information from me to update account, or they are going to close my account.... They weren't from Ebay. So now if I get an email like that I double check.
