No, it won't help. Years ago, you had to have a full bladder, but now days the equipment used is much better at detecting what needs to be checked. However, using it for sex determination is not 100%. Having a full bladder will not impact whether the baby is in a good position to be seen or not.
What it will do, is have your sonographer ask you to go partially empty your bladder so that can get the correct views and measurements. And believe me, it isn't easy to go and try and pee, just a little bit. You are much better of drinking what they tell you and just hoping for the best. Eating a piece of candy before the test can help. The sugar usually( not always) helps to get the baby moving around.

Good Luck!

The only way that will help is that when you have a full bladder, it pushes your uterus up so that it is easier to view. This is what could make a viewing better. But, your bladder could be about to burst, and your little one may be too shy or just stubborn. My little girl on the ultrasound, with 8 viewings, and they all said girl, turned out to be a BOY on d-day! So, you never know. Good luck, I hope you get what you want, and also a healthy little one. A word of advice from a mother of two.......kiss and love that little one as much as you can, they don't stay little very long! I wish you the best!

It can help push the baby into a better position for all ultrasound viewings. It is a small improvement though. Your doctor's office may have better equipment than most if they tell you not to drink up ahead of time. Count your blessings- Its really hard to hold your bladder while you are up there getting your tummy rubbed!!

Best Wishes!!!

When I had all my ultrasounds, I needed to have a full bladder before they could do the ultrasound. It's easier for them to see what's going on inside there.

the full bladder is so that your cervix is easier to see. After the tech checked my cervix with the ultrasound I was allowed to pee. The rest of the ultrasound was then done, we found out the sex near the end when he finally flipped around.

So no you don't need a full bladder to determine sex.

They need the bladder to be full so that it "distends" and doesn't interfere with getting a good view of the fetus inside the womb. It has nothing to do with determining the sex of the fetus. That depends on how co operative the fetus is about looking between it's legs. My daughter wouldn't uncross her legs...(something that was rumored to mean the fetus is a male by the way), it didn't matter to me, I didn't care if I knew before the birth which sex I was having.

I doesn't matter. Usually they did a full baldder when you are very early pregnant. While in your 2nd and 3rd trimester you don't need a full bladder because the baby is big enough to see clearly.

that will not help to see babys gender--
that is just so the u/s tech can have an easier time 'locating' baby.

20+ weeks is the best time to get the gender u/s done.
I have heard of people drinking coffee or orange juice before getting the big one done because that makes the baby move around a bit. (it didnt with me though)
also eating chocolate or candy--but if you do that you need to do it at least 2 hours before you go--anything you eat takes 2 hours to reach baby.

No. If the baby is facing front the ultra sound nurse MAY be able to tell you BUT they don't like to do that just in case you are wrong. If you drink too much water the nurse will also make you pee some out....that really sux. Alot....But no amount of water will help you see the sex of him/her.
