It seems to me that people in the USA (or at least my little corner of it) seem to think that everything bad that happens is your fault.

People don't seem to think that they have any responsibility for the people around them.

What happens when you are having serious problems and realize that everyone around you still just want to know what you can do for them?

I think most of our problems ARE self-inflicted, & that you really can't expect others to be of any help unless they've been through what you are. The reality IS, there are roads in life we ALL walk down ALONE- & deal with the best we can. If we "blow" a decision, then it's up to us to clean up the mess, take the consequences, -& get on with our lives. If you're REALLY lucky, you'll have someone special to hold your hand with- through the process. Otherwise, it's up to you to keep your mouth shut (nobody listens to a whiner- anyway), & "get on with it". -You can't blame others for running away from bad news. That's the way the World is.
