I honestly think he just cannot face that he was wrong to go to Iraq in the first place. He is desperate to make this war work, and this "plan" is his last ditch attempt at success. When it fails, Bush will be a broken President and man. His arrogance is such that he just cannot contemplate and acknowledge his own mistakes. Even when attempting to admit to mistakes he cannot attribute them directly to himself. Instead he says "Mistakes have been made..." It would take an actual miracle to turn the tide of disapproval toward this war around to Bush's favor. In reality I think his version of victory was always unrealistic. He expected the Iraqis to fall at our feet swooning with gratefulness, who would also follow our every lead and go calmly like sheep into a democracy designed and led by his "great" leadership and vision. Has a President ever been so unbelievably wrong? Has a President ever been so stunningly stubborn and willful, even in the face of hard evidence that his dream has failed? I almost feel sorry for him, but then his smirk comes to mind and that sorrow turns more to disgust. I am only afraid that in his arrogance he will actually start WWIII by dealing with Iran and Syria in similar high handed manner.

Perhaps he feels that he needs what he needs to do regardless of public opinion, etc., and hopes it will work. If it does work, great, but if not he is setting up the Democrats for a landslide victory in the 2008 elections. I didn't vote for him, but I hope what he is doing works. I would have sent in a half a million troops in the first place, and then we could have drawn down the number of troops and gone "see? - we are withdrawing" - even if it was drawing down the troop strength to 400,000. Current estimates are that it would take about 140,000 troops in Baghdad alone to keep the peace, so it does make you wonder what the heck President Bush is thinking.

Jim Baker is daddy's best friend, and a good part of this adventure is to prove he is tougher than daddy.
As far as public opinion is concerned, this administration did not take office to serve the American people. No Republican does. They are there to make a small group of their friends incredibly rich.

His vision is to profit as much as possible in this so called war for oil, it is more about oil prices and you just watch what will happen to the price at the pump when he escalates the war. He and his rich buddy's are reaping so much money from this war he hopes it never gets over with.

all people tend to ignore other's that say their ideas are wrong. just most people aren't so close-minded when another person's life is on the line, like Bush is.

It doesn't have to listen to them. But the real reason is that every other solution would not work. A gradual withdrawal would be a terrible decision as expressed in the Baker-Hamilton report. A complete pullout would leave a country to become an ally to Iran, whom we are already having problems with.
Bottom line, we have to win in Iraq.

His only vision is of trying to save his doomed presidency. He doesn't care about how many more troops die. He has no brain and no heart.

His vision is for a free Iraq and to fight the war on terror. He also wants the Iraq people to be less dependent on our troops and take care of the own country so we can get out of there.
