get some wax paper, and pour some salt on it, and get your iron really hot and put the iron down on the salt and rub the iron on the salt thats on the wax paper, This is what I do sometimes to clean my iron.

If that's a teflon or non stick iron or if it quite is in basic terms stuff from the clothing then use in basic terms a sprint waxed paper, warmth the iron and iron on the wax paper until it comes off. If it quite is older than that I constantly use a scratch brite pad, little water and while i'm completed sparkling the holes earlier plugging it in.

get a piece of sharp edged wood...ie a 2x4 or cutting board.put a rag over the wood. put your iron on hi & when it's hot scrape the iron on the edge of the rag covered board (kinda like when you scrape mud off your boots)

I've used a fine grit emery cloth on ours, you can do it when it's cold also so you won't get accidentally burned.
