It means you are on stand by as opposed to having a guaranteed seat booking. Only if there is a cancellation, a no-show or an unbooked seat does the stand by list come into play and you then get on as a passenger. xxxx

It means the flight is fully booked but in the event of a no show then the first one on stand by gets the seat.
