Well, this is what happen...i go to a private school and i work in the Covent next to the school as a receptionist. There is a cook who works there also, he was very nice man to me at first. You know. But, then one day i went in the kitchen to heat up my lunch, and he said some very inappropiate things to me, that i will not repeat. Well, I told my parents and my father was very upset, we told the school and anyone else who was in high authority. They told us that he has been there part time for 8 years and this has never happen before. Now, keep in mind i am african-american he is african american also. He knows that i am sophmore in highschool, because only students can work in the convent as receptionists. He also works part time with my aunt, and he has also sexually harrassed girls at her job also, that were 16,17, and 18. I go to a prodominantly white private school, is this a race issue. Would they have done something if I was white and he was black? What should I do?

firstly if you fell any bit physically or emotionally threatened by this man, you must leave this job. This is not acceptable especially if it's not the first occurance! What exactly did the police say? Sexual Harassment is a crime that must be dealt with harshly. First dirty talk then dirty behaviour! Think about taking civil lawsuit out against the school for inappropriate dealings of a serious situation! None of us know this school, but would it have been different if you were a white girl, possibly, possibly not! Main issue is getting that man as far away from you as possible.

Hm.....this is a hard question. I do not want to say that it is a race issue, however it very well could be. Are the "higher ups" at your school partial to any particular race that you have seen, if this is the case then race could be the issue. But if he has sexually harassed others you should see if charges were brought against him, if so then file a complaint and if that doesn't do anything I would suggest getting a restraining order because sexual harassment can lead to other things later on in life if he sees that he can get away with this. Try to speak to the highest authoritarian at your school and/or job and if they refuse to speak on the issue just try sitting down with the Police, preferably one you trust if you know any, and try and see which route to take. Same thing happened to me in High School except the guy got expelled because I was one of the "good" kids per se according to my Superintendents. LOL.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

If you talk to a lawyer, you may find that inappropriate talk is not necessarily defined as sexual harassment under the law. Your state laws may differ, but I doubt it.

When someone says inappropriate things;
-step 1, tell them that what they are saying is inappropriate and not appreciated.
-step 2, if they continue tell them that if they continue, you will report them to management
-step 3, if necessary report them to management, and ask management for their plan to correct the situation.
-step 4, the terminology that probably best applies is "hostile work environment". Point out to management that a hostile work environment is probably grounds for legal action.

The lesson here that one can take through life, is to learn to communicate with ones co-workers better. Sometimes men don't communicate well, and end up being inappropriate. Obviously if they had better social skills they would not be using behaviors/words that were so unacceptable. People don't deliberately put their foot in their mouth. It just ends up there because no one taught them to better express themselves.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, nor do I claim legal knowledge or expertise. Lawyers are wonderful people who do not look for excuses to sue anyone they can, nor do they make a living using their position of power in the legal system to take money away from others in order to enrich themselves.

Go see a lawyer. Ask the lawyer to write a strong worded letter to the school advising them of their liability should they continue to employ someone who is harassing young women, especially since they have been notified of the harassment. If you know he has done this to others, ask them all to meet with you and ask them to agree to sign a petition asking for his removal from the school because of the things he has said and done and then have each of them sign it. Take it to the lawyer when you go to see him.

You should press charges. If the school isn't doing anything, you do it yourself. Get your parents to help.
