They get baby acne because of the influx of hormones (especially estrogen) that they get during labor and birth. It'll clear up in a few weeks, but until then leave it alone.

And despite what some others say, it *is* acne, not a heat rash or whatever.

My son's pediatrician says it is not only because of hormones but also that a newborns sweat glands don't start to work until a few days after they are born, causing the acne. She said that most babies experience this to some degree and it usually disappears by the time they reach the 2 mo. mark, or 3 mo. at the latest.

That isnt the same thing as what you think acne is. It's a newborn.. all babies get it and couple weeks it's all gone.
For goodness sake don't put any grown up products on that baby for acne!

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots

Tips on how to treat acne and achieve perfect clear skin in as little as 7 days?

For the same reason that teens get it! HORMONES!!! When the baby is still inutero, it's mothers hormones mix with theirs. When the baby is born, the mother's hormones are still exiting the baby's body and there for cause a hormonal change, which your body deals with in different ways, the most common is with a break out! When teens begin puberty, this is what causes the breakout of pimples, the change in hormones. Hope this helps.

The red spots on a baby's skin is called 'Miliaria'. Its occurs when the baby is wrapped up too tightly and gets overheated. You will notice that these papules dissapear soon after the baby is not kept overly warm.

Because of all the mother's hormones that are still surging in their bodies after birth. It goes away by the time that they are 4-5 months old.

I suspect it's just that their delicate skin comes into contact with various fluids and that coupled with being in the open air for the first time causes this effect .

It's the leftover hormones from mom working thier way out of baby's system. I ask my daughters pediatrician the same thing and that is the answere she gave me. ;)
