There are soil test kits available from stores like Home Depot and Lowe's, and they should have instructions on how to do it. Also a great resource is your local county extension service. You can send them a soil sample, and they do a thorough analysis of your soil. They can also give you advice on how to amend your soil and advice on plants that you can grow in your soil. Look in the white pages of your phone directory under County Government.

It's usually a state university with a horticulture program that runs the extension service. In SC, for example, Clemson University runs them and in GA, it's the University of Georgia. I hope this helps you.

Dig down about six inches, get a jarfull of dirt and take it to the Home Depot.They do testing . Also any garden center would be able to,like Armstrong Nursery.They also have kits you can do yourself,and you can also send it to the dept. of Agriculture.

You can test your soil with a gardener soil test -- its satisfies most home gardening tests .. for instance, try Gurney's home test kit:
